(English) ENAR invitation for Symposium: Muslim women, forgotten women? Understanding the gender dimension of Islamofobia

On 26 May 2016 in Brussels, the European Network Against Racism (ENAR) will present the results of a two-year project on the discrimination affecting Muslim women in eight EU countries. This will be the first EU symposium to specifically address intersectional aspects of racism against Muslim women.

The project „Forgotten women: the impact of Islamofobia on Muslim women“, which is the result of a joint efford between the anti-racism and women’s rights movements, underlines what is like to be a Muslim woman in Europe. This work provides also a deep analysis which can be useful to improve the implementation of EU equality and non-discrimination legislation and develop alliances between Muslim and women’s rights movements.

This symposium will represent a unique oportunity to meet and listen to important experts in the field of racism and discrimination, to contribute actively to the discussion on how to advance rights of Muslim women in Europe and to design concrete solutions for a better inclusion of Muslim women in the European context.
