At the occasion of the 8th Anti-Bullying Week taking place from November 16th to November 20th, 2020, Children or Prisoners Europe launched a fundraising on the theme “Stop stigma associated with parental imprisonment” for this same period. Indeed, children with a parent in prison can be subject to bullying because of it. This stigma, associated with the difficulties of being separated from the parent, is very harmful to a child’s well-being. The goal of the fundraising is to raise awareness on the stigma and act against the consequences it has on children.
COPE reminds of the role schools can play in supporting children with a parent in prison, and developed a toolkit, “Reading Between the Lines”, for supporting organizations working with schools on this matter.
